Jenny Raterman, Ph.D., AMFT

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Jenny (she/her) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #150646) working under the supervision of Molly McCobb, LCSW (CA LCSW 98584). Jenny received a Bachelor of Arts from Kenyon College and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University. After a decade of teaching high school language arts, Jenny opted to make a career transition and earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Wright Institute.

While training as a counselor, Jenny worked as a Wellness intern for SFUSD, complementing her long experience in independent schools and strengthening her commitment to promoting youth mental health across settings. Her clinical approach emphasizes skill building in a personalized, relational context, and she believes that the deep acceptance and care of the therapist-client relationship offers unique opportunities for youth and families to heal painful patterns and grow towards their full potential. Jenny is committed to providing culturally relevant therapy to clients of diverse backgrounds and continually works to update and deepen her understanding of her own and other perspectives. She is especially enthusiastic about working queer and gender-non-conforming children and families.

Outside of work, Jenny enjoys an ever-expanding array of fiber arts, so far including knitting, weaving, natural dyeing, and basketry. She is also very enthusiastic about collages, audiobooks, and strenuous walks through San Francisco’s foggiest neighborhoods.
